Pregnancy and birth complications are increasing locally from COVID

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — With the Delta variant spreading faster than the original COVID-19 strain, pregnant mothers are at a higher risk when giving birth.

As we know, the situation with COVID-19 is rapidly changing every day. Last year, there were no pregnant patients on ventilators in Dothan.

However, this year, multiple I.C.U admissions have involved pregnant moms who have needed respiratory assistance.

Dothan OBGYN administrator Shayne Mathews encourages expectant mothers to get vaccinated. This includes all household members who will have contact with the newborn.
