PENSACOLA, Fla (WDHN) — A resolution was unanimously adopted in the U.S. Senate this week remembering the 2019 Pensacola terrorist attack that killed an Enterprise native.

Three servicemen died during the attack on the Naval Air Station: Ensign Joshua Kaleb Watson, 23, of Enterprise, Petty Officer Third Class Cameron Scott Walters of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and Petty Officer Third Class Mohammed Sameh Haitham of St. Petersburg, Florida. Each was awarded purple hearts posthumously.

A release concerning the resolution stated that, despite being shot multiple times, Ensign Watson heroically helped direct the first response team to the active shooter’s location and helped save multiple lives.

Ensign Watson’s courage and quick action saved countless lives on a tragic day for our military. He embodied the spirit of American heroism, standing tall in the face of terrorism to save others — even at the expense of his own life. We keep his memory alive by sharing his story of patriotism, service, and sacrifice.

According to past WDHN reports, the December 6 attack was committed by Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, a Saudi Arabian pilot and foreign military student with connections to Al Qaeda.

A total of 35 military personnel, civilians, and law enforcement officers were awarded for their heroic work during the attack.

U.S. Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Richard Shelby (R-AL), Jon Ossoff (D-GA), and Raphael Warnock (D-GA) joined Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville in sponsoring the resolution.
