Samson Elementary welcomes former teacher as new counselor

SAMSON, Ala. (WDHN) — Samson Elementary School has welcomed in a new counselor ahead of the 2021-2022 school year.

The journey has come full circle for Rene’ Hammond as she first started her education career in 1984 as Samson’s special education teacher.

She then went on to make education stops in many other places but she recently worked at Fort Rucker Elementary where she retired.

Hammond says only a special place like Samson could bring her back out of retirement and it was hard to say ‘no’ to such as supportive administration.

“Everyone has been so welcoming they welcomed me on Facebook and they have a link with just the school and the principal shared my information with the school and asked them to touch base with me and they have done so,” Hammond said. “I feel like I’m a part of the family already”

Hammond’s first day consisted of sorting files and figuring out how to keep the system running smoothly.
