DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Alabama Automotive Manufacturers Association is partnering with the Alabama Community College System to offer scholarships to up and coming students wanting to go in to automotive manufacturing.

Wallace Community College is one of the colleges in the state offering $3,600 in available scholarships.

These scholarships will be given to community college students who are seeking careers in the automotive field, such as students seeking a degree in the applied engineering program, automotive service technician program, and the welding technology program.

Wallace representatives met with automotive company representatives and were told that they were in need of around 17,000 technicians

“Providing opportunity, because without those students can’t enroll and we cant train the students that are needed in our community, ” Associate Dean of Career and Technical Education, Martha Compton said. “To meet those high demand, high wage, and high skill positions.”

October 29 is the last day to apply for students to apply for the scholarship.
