DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Construction crews started Friday morning on the pedestrian sidewalk project — a part of the Highway 84 east corridor plan.
“A sidewalk in and around at the circle the medical center it goes up to the emergency room entrance drive, it has pedestrian crosswalks at the circle and it ties down to the sidewalks below the banks,” Assistant Public Works Director Bart Barefoot said.
Construction in this busy medical hub could take place for about 4 months. Although most of the construction will not take place on the road itself, congestion in your commute is still a possibility.
“Narrowing in some lanes at time if they are doing some things right by the road or some driveways could be closed,” Barefoot said.
Barefoot said the construction will only take place during the daytime, so drivers should pay attention to signage and speed when workers are present.
While it may be an inconvenience for some for a little while, Barefoot said transportation will become much easier on the east side — the goal for the city of Dothan.
“Pedestrian access to get people around from neighborhoods to hospitals, and eventually downtown which is a part of that Dothan City Center.” He added.
