Man charged in Friday evening shooting in Cottonwood


UPDATE (WDHN) –  Cottonwood Police arrested David Raul Townsend in connection with the shooting that happened Friday evening.

The incident happened in the 2000 block of Hickory Grove Road.

Numerous law enforcement agencies responded to the shooting scene in Cottonwood Friday evening.

According to Houston County Jail records, Townsend, 20, is charged with first degree assault.

He was booked into the Houston County Jail Friday evening and released Saturday evening around 6:00 p.m. on $30,000 bond.

No new information on the victim was available from authorities.


COTTONWOOD, Ala. (WDHN) — The Cottonwood Police Department and Houston County Sheriff’s Office are at the scene of a shooting that happened Friday evening.

The victim was a 19-year-old man who was shot in the face. According to Colonel Jim Smith, public safety director for Cottonwood, the victim has life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.

“This is very unusual for us in this rural area,” Smith said. “We normally don’t have a lot of crime, and this is just very uncommon.”

Authorities do have a suspect in custody who faces several charges, although Smith said he could not go into details. The situation is still under investigation.
