DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) —There will be a new face representing Alabama House District 85 after the upset of democrat Dexter Grimsley.

Rick Rehm comes with years of army experience, as well as years of working with the republican party executive committee at both the local and state level.

District 85 encompasses Henry County and two-thirds of Dothan.

Rehm won with 54% of the vote in his first election. Grimsley has held the seat for the past 12 years.

Rehm brings 29 years of army experience, serving in uniform for 4 years, and 25 years of civil service working at Fort Rucker.

He says when he saw everything that was going on throughout the country, he felt compelled to run.

“It’s a big responsibility and we are all excited for this new chapter for me as a representative, but it carries a lot of weight to it because we need to make sure we take care of the residents of the district,” Newly elected representative, Rick Rehm said.

Rehm says he wants to make sure his resident’s rights are being respected, their needs are being met, and the government is working for them.
