DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The pandemic has taken a huge toll on caregivers who take care of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients.
Mainly, because of the lack of a support system that they have.
Director Kay Jones, at the Alzheimer Resource Center, said COVID made it hard to have a support system. Many have been fearful of spreading the virus, which means no one checks on the caregivers and their families.
She explained that those who were helping families last year slowed down because of it.
“It kind of slowed down last year and this year, and I think our families are forgotten, so I would like to encourage people if you know someone caring for someone, please give them a call just say ‘I’ve been thinking about you today, I just wanted to say I love you and you’re doing a great job’,” Jones said.
On Saturday, October 2, the second annual ‘Walk to Remember’ will take place at Westgate Park.
