Update: DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — A Dothan teenager has been charged with the murder of 27 year old Johnnie Settles who was shot and killed on the night of April 29th.

Due to the suspect’s age, there is limited information available to the public, but Dothan police did release that the suspect is 14 years old.

The teenager was taken into custody in the evening hours of May 4th and has since been placed in the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center.

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN)  — One person is dead following a shooting just north of downtown Dothan Thursday night.

Dothan Police responded to the scene at the 700 block of Alabama Avenue for a subject suffering from gunshot wounds.

Johnnie Settles, 27, of Dothan was shot and killed late Thursday night.

Before police and medics arrived on the scene, Settles had been taken by personal vehicle to a local hospital.

Despite medical intervention, Settles was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Dothan Police are not sure of what might have led to the shooting.
