HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — Wednesday, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office released new details on the November murder of a Pansey man.
Hardy Gray was allegedly murdered on November 27, 2021, in his mobile home.
Gray, who was shot between 5-6 times by two separate handguns was a victim of an alleged robbery turned murder.
Five suspects in total have been arrested for capital murder, including two unnamed juveniles, ages 16 and 17, Elijah Patrick Hazell, 18, Mykeila Rowser, 21, and Cierra Goodson, 34.
Houston Co. Sheriff Donald Valenza confirmed that due to a recent Alabama law, juveniles’ names cannot be disclosed after they are in police custody, even if they are to be charged with murder.
The 17-year-old suspect turned himself into Houston County officials on Feb. 2.
According to Houston County District Attorney Pat Jones, juveniles can be charged with capital murder, but are ineligible for the death penalty. However, Hazell, Rowser, and Goodson, if convicted of capital murder, could face capital punishment.
All five suspects are currently in the Houston County Jail with no bond set.
The first preliminary hearing, in this case, is scheduled for March 4.
