DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Houston County Sheriff’s Office and Dothan Police Department were alerted to a shooting in the Coggins Trailer Park Saturday.

According to the victim, she and her husband were robbed and attacked.

“I don’t know if it was their gun, fist, or what, but they hit me so hard I flew across the kitchen floor, and I hit my daughters bike and it fell on me and bruised my foot,” said the woman, who wanted to remain anonymous.

The victim was shot in both of her legs before she made an attempt to go and get help.

“So, I ran,” she said. “I zigzagged ran over to her house, and I like, army crawled up the steps so they wouldn’t see me, and by that time the one in the black hoodie noticed I got outside ’cause he heard me screaming for help,” the victim said. “So, he comes running outside going, ‘She got away! She got away! I don’t know which way she went.’ So, that’s when they left, and I was over there asking (my neighbor) for help. She almost didn’t answer the door.”

The lady who helped her was a neighbor and friend of the family who was afraid for her own safety.

“Banging on my door, I almost didn’t answer because it was scary to hear that, and then someone banging on my door,” the victim’s friend said. “I finally opened it because I heard her screaming, and she said I’ve been shot I’ve been shot so we called 911.”

The sheriff’s office and police department later searched for a shooting suspect in the area between South Park and Alpine Lane Sunday morning, identifying him as Brandon Riggins, born in 1987. Riggins is described as being a black man and escaped authorities on foot during their manhunt.

The victim believes the robbery was a set-up.

“These people are after money ’cause I (ask) if they wanted money, why didn’t they take any of our belongings?” the victim said. “Why didn’t they take my rings?”
