Early Friday morning, some severe storms were moving through the Wiregrass. One storm in central Henry County had some rotation and produced a brief tornado approximately 1.5 miles north of Abbeville along U.S. Hwy 431 at 4:42 am.
The National Weather Service estimates that the tornado had maximum winds of 85 mph, classifying it as an EF 0 on the Enhanced Fujita Sale. The path was approximately 0.15 miles, and the tornado was about 35 yards wide.
A semi truck in the path of the tornado, along Highway 431, was picked up and tossed on the side of the road. The driver escaped uninjured. Two lanes of the road were closed while the damaged truck was cleaned up.
In the surrounding area of the tornado, there was minor building and tree damage and some power outages reported. There are no injuries to report at this time.
