CITRONELLE, Ala. (WIAT) — A South Alabama boy battling brain cancer for the second time is in the prayers of many–including Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa.
In a video posted to SidStrong, a Facebook page dedicated to the Citronelle 10-year-old’s fight with cancer, Tua Facetimes Sid, first talking a little bit of football and baseball before telling him he’s praying for him.
“Yeah buddy, I just wanted to let you know that we’re praying for you, for you and your family,” Tua said. “If I get an opportunity to come and see you, I’m gonna come and see you–hopefully it’s after this LSU game. And I hope you get to watch that game.”
“Yes sir,” Sid responds.
Tua then asks, “So can I pray for you right now?”
“Father God, I just wanna thank you for my little buddy right here, Sid, I just ask you protect his heart, his mind, you guard him from every little thing distracting him, Father. Let us pray that you heal him, Father, in Jesus name, in your word it says by your stripes we are healed, Father and I command that over my little man’s life, Father,” Tua prayed.
Friday, Sid was welcomed home by large groups of students at the high school and middle school–hundreds came to a police-escorted procession. He recently underwent surgery to remove a tumor from his brain.
“Sid is such a big part of our community, he’s a strong kid, has the best faith we wanted to show him how much we love him, how much we support him as he’s going through this battle to show him some love,” said family friend Brandi Lynch. “This is his second battle with cancer, the first when he was two years old, we found the tumor about a year ago, he had to have it removed last Friday and came through it like a champ.”
He’s only home for a brief time, he’ll head back up to St. Jude this Sunday for additional treatment.
They’re asking for donations on their GoFundMe account. You can keep up with new developments at the Sid Strong Facebook Page. You can also donate to the First Bank of Citronelle, formally known as First Community Bank. There’s also a baseball tournament coming up next weekend.
