DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Wiregrass United Way began its annual Pacesetter kickoff campaign at 8:30 Tuesday morning.
93 businesses across six Wiregrass counties agreed to start their united way campaign in order to be finished by September.
After the program, over 150 volunteers packaged 30-thousand meals within one hour to be distributed by the Wiregrass Food Bank starting immediately.
United Way CEO explained the importance of the food packaging event.
“In our society people should not be hungry here in southeast Alabama but they are for various reasons, whether its young people or senior citizens, and this food will help meet those needs,” Hill said.
The campaign goal for the United Way is $2.7 million dollars and when that is reached an additional 400,000 dollars will be granted by the Wiregrass Foundation.
