DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan municipal election which took place on August 3 concluded Tuesday evening with its only runoff election, the race for the District 2 Commission seat.
After four initial contenders, Tuesday’s runoff was between Aristotle Kirkland and Phil Kirksey.
Turnout was light, and of the 234 total votes cast, 176 went to Kirkland who had this to say tonight about his victory.
“I want to say congrats to my opponent,” District 2 Commission Elect, Aristotle Kirkland said. “He ran a great race. To him and his family, much love and success to him, but I am excited for all of the supporters and constituents that came out to vote, and now it is time to get back to work.”
Kirkland will be sworn in, as will all city officials who were elected in August, at a special ceremony to be held at the Dothan Civic Center on Monday, October 4.
