MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama student has won a $10,000 scholarship that assists people who are overcoming personal loss.
This year’s recipient of the Cat Zingano Overcoming Loss Scholarship is Destiny Wallace, a Birmingham native.
She’s a graduate of Ramsay IB High School and a current student at Auburn University at Montgomery.
Zingano is a mixed martial arts fighter known for her toughness. But she lost her mother to brain cancer and her husband took his own life.
She established the scholarship to aid people who are dealing with losses in their own lives. Wallace lost her mother while just a freshman in high school.
