SKIPPERVILLE, Ala. (WDHN) — The G.W. Long football team is prepping for its round two playoff matchup on the road.
The Rebels travel to Reeltown to face another team of Rebels, one G.W. Long has never beaten.
Reeltown leads the series 3-0. The last time they faced one another was in the 2019 postseason when Reeltown won 41-22.
This season, Reeltown is 9-1 and G.W. Long is 8-3.
G.W. Long hosted St. Luke’s in round one. It was a close one, but the Rebels came out on top 19-16.
Head Coach David Watts says facing a fast and physical Reeltown team this week is a bit of an uphill battle, but the G.W. Long Rebels are up for the challenge.
“Our guys are ready for it,” Watts said. “We’ve kind of taken on a mentality of it’s us versus the world this week. I don’t think a lot of people are really giving us a shot in this game, but our kids believe and we’re ready to go see what happens.”
G.W. Long battles Reeltown at 7 p.m. on Friday for a chance to win its first playoff game on the road since 2019.
