ARITON, Ala. (WDHN) — The champions of Class 2A Region Two are gearing up to host another playoff game for the second round of postseason play.

The Ariton Purple Cats host Highland Home on Friday night in a rematch from the regular season.

When the two met at Highland Home in week one the Purple Cats lost by only one point.

This time around the Cats come off of a dominant 61-22 round one win over Chickasaw.

Players say they think the team has matured since their loss to the Flying Squadron 11 weeks ago.

They believe that teamwork, plus the environment in the Zumstein, will earn them a trip to round three.

“We’ve got to finish the game and not let up,” Ariton senior Andyn Garris said. “We were up two touchdowns going into the fourth quarter in the last game and we let up so I just think we’ve got to keep our foot on the gas and finish the job.”

“I love playing at home,” Ariton senior Christian Brown said. “The environment of Ariton High School is just so different and you don’t really get that anywhere around here. I just love Ariton. It’s been my dream since I was a little kid to bring a state championship to Ariton High School. That’s something that we’ve never done so it just motivates me to get the job done Friday night.”

The Purple Cats battle the Flying Squadron Friday night at 7 p.m. in Ariton.
