WICKSBURG, Ala. (WDHN) — Wicksburg High School is hosting a playoff football game for the first time since 2017.
The Panthers, who came in third in Class 2A Region Two, hit the road week one.
They came back with a decisive 34-7 victory over J.U. Blacksher earning them home field advantage for the second round.
Tomorrow night Wicksburg hosts B.B. Comer in round two.
This is the first time the Panthers have advanced to round two in five years.
Should they beat the Tigers, it will be the first time the Panthers have won in the second round since 1998.
Head Coach Josh Cox says the Panthers have faced several challenging opponents so far this year and they’re ready for the next.
“I guess I’d just say the mindset of a warrior,” Cox said. “We’ve been battle tested this year. We’ve played a lot of really good teams. This senior group we’ve got has been with me since they were ten years old, through rec league, and they just believe they can win. That’s just the mindset they have.”
Wicksburg and B.B. Comer kickoff Friday night at 7 p.m. in a freshly painted Panther stadium.
