DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A former Dothan mayor was presented a huge cash prize from the Kiwanis Club of Dothan for his superior golf performance.
Chester Sowell, who served as Dothan mayor from 1997-to 2005 was presented a 10,000 dollar check for his hole-in-one in the annual golf tournament.
Sowell’s process on the links is the first “Hole in one” ever in Kiwanis Club history.
Sowell said it was all luck and he’s not good at golf. He says that he just grabbed the right club, hit the sweet spot, and next thing you know he heard loud cheers from Dan Fink, a Kiwanis Club member who witnessed the shot.
Sowell explained how he plans to spend the 10,000.
“When the check comes in, I’ll probably take some of the guys out that I played with and we’ll enjoy lunch one night and then from there give it to the wife you know the wife will spend it anyway,” Sowell said.
Sowell said he’s fortunate and blessed for the Kiwanis Club of Dothan.
