DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — 31 teams of four took to the links in Dothan to help raise scholarship money.

The teams competed at the Highland Oaks Golf Course in the 8th annual Wallace Community College-Dothan Foundation, Hugh W. Wheelless, Jr. Memorial Golf Fore Education Tournament.

This is the first year it has been named after Hugh Wheelless Jr. He donated more than
400 acres to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail where the teams played on Thursday.

Wheelless Jr. was inducted into the Dothan Business Hall of Fame in 2021.

Proceeds from Thursday’s tournament go to the Wallace Community College Foundation.

“This is a great honor and we are very thankful that dad is being memorialized in this way,” Hugh Wheelless Jr.’s son, Trip Wheelless III said. “It has been a long week for our family, and I’ll tell you that there is no better way to have his birthday here today with all of you guys.”

Wallace Community College Foundation provides more than 175 scholarships; totaling $150,000 in scholarship money.
