Football season preview 2022

HENERY COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — Rather than letting the COVID-19 pandemic get them down and struggling in 2020, the Generals took their talent all the way to state, coming back with a silver plaque. New head coach, Matthew Mims, with ten years under his belt has experience coaching in the NJCAA and explains it best.

“You know, Nick Saban said a rebuilding year, and look at what he did. So they kind of went under a rebuilding year last season and you’ve got some great personalities around here. But again, that senior leadership class is one of the best ones I’ve had since I’ve started coaching, ever!” stated Mims.

Senior leadership can be rare. With only 16 seniors returning this season, that’s going to be a key aspect for the Generals, but don’t count out the seven returners on the offensive line.

“I look forward to the offensive line the most, and I know I talk about that a lot, but they’ve been a great core, great packed, and it’s kind of the most kids I’ve ever had in an AISA school.”

Overall, the goal for this year’s season doesn’t completely rely on Matthew Mims.

“In my first year here we’re going to set the bar wherever it is and we’re just going to move from there, but expectations are whatever the kids want it to be.”
