MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDHN) — The Alabama High School Athletic Association announced its next executive director Friday.
Current Associate Executive Director Alvin Briggs was unanimously approved to be the new leader of the association.
Briggs has been on the executive staff of the AHSAA for 10 years. He takes over for Steve Savarese who is retiring after 15 years at the helm.
Briggs was a standout athlete at Greenville High School who went on to play defensive back at Auburn before spending his one pro year with the Dallas Cowboys.
Injuries cut his NFL career short.
He is the fifth executive director for the AHSAA and the first to be selected from AHSAA executive staff.
