DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Alabama Sports and Adventure Hall of Fame celebrated its 2023 inductees with a dinner at Dothan Country Club.
Last year was the organization’s inaugural class.
Chairman Mike Schmitz created the ASA to honor those that make a positive impact in their communities by staying active.
One of this year’s eight inductees, Evelyn Holmes-Smith, is a decorated wrestler and a sophomore at Enterprise High School.
“It’s really great knowing that all my hard work was able to get me here,” Holmes-Smith said. “Also, promoting girls’ wrestling is one of my biggest goals so it also just helps me achieve that.”
This year’s inductees are:
- Charlene Commerford
- Kasey Cooper
- Mike Culbreth
- Evelyn Holmes-Smith
- Mary Morgan Howell
- Team Medeiros Boxing
- Jatin Patel
- Joe Varner
The induction ceremony takes place at the Dothan Civic Center on April 25.
Robyn Benincasa will be the keynote speaker at the event.
