ASHFORD, Ala. (WDHN) — Ashford High School has hired David Stapleton as its next head football coach.

In addition to leading the football program Stapleton will serve as Ashford’s athletic director and weight training teacher.

Prior to joining the Jackets, Stapleton was an assistant coach at Tuscaloosa County High School for three years.

Ashford marks his first head coaching job.

The Fairhope native and Troy University grad takes over from Robin Tyra with whom the school parted ways in January.

Tyra went 4-25 in three seasons with the Yellowjackets.
