OPP, Ala. (WDHN) — The Opp Bobcats are gearing up for a triumphant return to the playoffs, with first-year head coach Matt Brunson at the helm. After a solid 8-3 performance in the previous season, the team faced an unfortunate early exit in the first round of the playoffs.
Coach Brunson, who takes the reins after the departure of the previous head coach, is optimistic about the team’s prospects. “I think we’re gonna be stronger defensively because last year we graduated a lot of offensive production, so those guys will all be new,” Coach Brunson commented. “We gotta figure out exactly what our identity is gonna be and how we’re gonna play offensively, but I think we got a chance defensively with these guys and the experience we have returning for that part to carry us until we get our offense figured out.”
The core of the Bobcat defense remains largely intact, with the dynamic linebacker duo of Nelson Hall and Colby Ballard set to lead the charge. These seasoned players will be supported by a formidable defensive line, adding to the team’s overall defensive strength. With a wealth of experience returning on the defensive side, Coach Brunson has underlined that the defense will take center stage in the early stages of the season.
The Bobcats’ season opener is scheduled against the Andalusia Bulldogs on Thursday, August 24th. As the team works to establish its offensive strategy and find its footing, the prowess of the defense, highlighted by the leadership of Hall and Ballard, is expected to play a crucial role.
