Elba Football season preview 2022

COFFEE COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — The Elba Tigers football club has a lot going on. After losing many key seniors, this season they bump back down to class 1A after spending the last two seasons playing 2A ball.

“Trying to figure out where all the pieces fit. You know, we’re dropping the 1A, which is different for us, so that’s exciting and maybe a little bit scary all at the same time,” stated Head Coach Marc Sieving.

After dropping all but one starter on the offensive line, losing nine offensive starters and eight on the dark side of the ball, the sharp claws of Elba only return four seniors.

“We’re a real young team and you know, trying to figure out where all these young guys are going to fit into that. You know it’s been tough.”

One thing the Tigers do have going their way is the returning starters in QB Brayden Johnson, WB JT Coleman, OL/DL Kyle Smith and RB Alvin Henderson who last season as a freshman, ran for over 1,115 yards on 112 carries with 24 touchdowns.

With 30 plus offers from power five schools, everyone knows he’s going to get the ball this season.

“You know, of course, this is a team sport, you know? I mean, we got a like I said, we’ve got all these open spots on the offensive line, and so we need those guys to come on so that you know, they can open those holes and give him those opportunities.”

Overall, this program boat has some leaks, but they got the flex seal, to flex in Class 1A this season. Now it’s just about getting one percent better each and every single day.

“You know we’re not going to sit here and talk about Championships or Region Championships or big games. You know the thing that we can do to help ourselves out the most. Even with Alvin and all that college attention you know, is for us to just get better today.”

The Tigers pop out at New Brockton to start the season on Aug. 19.  Elba sits 13-1 all time against the Gamecocks.
