ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — The Enterprise 8U Rookies All-Star team is heading to the Dixie Youth Rookie World Series and team members are working to bring back a ring.
The team won the state tournament to represent Alabama in the World Series.
“These kids deserve it,” Team Manager Steven Bryant said. “They’ve played hard. They’ve practiced hard. We played eight games in five days. We scored 91 runs and only gave up 46 runs. We’re really proud of these boys and they played really hard.”
Bryant says the team’s success can be credited to the players’ hunger for learning.
“There’s a lot of talent on this team,” Bryant said. “They’re very coach-able kids. They’re always wanting to learn, they’re always wanting to practice. So when you put all that together and being good teammates that’s what makes a good team.”
Players are so excited to have made this once in a lifetime accomplishment.
“I can spend time with and hangout with my friends and I like to play baseball,” shortstop Brandt Harper said. “I want to represent the state of Alabama.”
Not only are they excited to play in the tournament, they’re trying to be champions.
“Dedication, hard work and we always tell them to reset their mind after every play,” Assistant Coach Blake Allen said. “If there’s a bad play they’ve got to reset their mind. Hopefully they can do that and they’ll be able to bring back the ring.”
The team is raising money to make their World Series dream a reality.
The All-Stars need to raise about $12,000 for travel, lodging, food and for new jerseys that say “Alabama” instead of “Enterprise.”
“It’s a huge blessing to be able to go,” Allen said. “These kids put in the work. Now they’re asking you again to please help donate.”
They’ve asked the state for support but haven’t heard back yet.
The World Series is July 22-25 in Texarkana, Arkansas.
There are multiple ways to help send the All-Stars to the World Series.
