OXFORD, Ala. (WDHN) – The Enterprise Wildcats began the quest for a state championship on Friday in Oxford.

The Wildcats got started early Friday morning with a matchup against the Sparkman Senators. eight teams started the day, but after the end of the day, only four teams remained.

Against Sparkman, the Wildcats got the scoring started in the third inning with a single from Iowa commit Georgia Lessman, which later led to a stolen base during the next at-bat. That stolen base was Lessman’s 40th of the season. This stolen base put Enterprise in scoring position.

Then Troy commit Taylor Danford made the pitcher pay and hit a ball that landed between two defenders, allowing Lessman to score and put Enterprise up 1-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, Wildcat pitcher Graceyn Snell was pitching a shutout, but the Senators were threatening, until they hit into a double play that Enterprise was able to easily turn.

The Senators however would spark some offense in the bottom of the sixth inning putting up 3 runs to take a 3-1 lead.

Enterprise in the top of the seventh was unable to answer and would fall to the Senators 3-1, which sent the Wildcats to the loser’s bracket, where they would face off against reigning 7A state champion Thompson in a win-or-go-home matchup.

Thompson started the game off hot, scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Enterprise tried to answer, but they couldn’t find an answer. Thompson wins 17-2 after four innings of play to eliminate the Wildcats from the tournament.

The loss also ends the Wildcats’ season.
