DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The inaugural Wiregrass Cup is taking place at Westgate Soccer Complex this weekend.

The tournament field is made up of both girls and boys varsity and junior varsity teams of all different classifications.

23 teams from 13 schools across the Wiregrass and as far as Spanish Fort and Beauregard are competing in the new event.

Houston Academy is hosting the two-day tourney and hope to bring more support to soccer in the Wiregrass.

“Give these kids an opportunity to play against other teams around the area and again just show that Dothan can be on the map to just like Mobile and Birmingham,” Houston Academy Boys Varsity Soccer Head Coach Brian Jackson said.

Tournament play continues all day on Saturday.

Championship matches start at 4:30 p.m.
