DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Thanks to a partnership with Alabama Parks and Rec and Dothan Leisure Services, NFL Flag football is coming to Alabama.

Even more exciting, Dothan native and NFL alum Izell Reese is kicking off programs here in the Wiregrass.

Registration starts Saturday, May 1, for boys and girls ages five to 17 to play flag football.

City officials think it’s a great way to provide young girls experience since girls flag football is now an AHSAA sanctioned sport.

Reese is in Canton, Ohio, for the NFL Draft and the first NFL Flag football tournament of the season which is something else he hopes to bring to the Wiregrass.

“I can’t wait to see our kids to have that opportunity from our community where I grew up, in Dothan,” Reese said. “Having an opportunity to be a part of those as well the tournament series.”

To register, go to nflflagalabama.com. The season will start in August.
