DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The NPC Body Be 1 Classic Bodybuilding Championship is coming up on Saturday at the Dothan Civic Center.
Bodybuilders of all ages and experience will participate in the competition.
“You will see some bodies that are in shape beyond their wildest dream because they’ve put time and effort into what they’re doing and they realized that that goal was achievable, it is achievable,” Body Be 1 owner and Body Be 1 Classic promoter Roland Huff said.
This is about the 15th year of the competition. The event was held in Phenix City for about a decade before coming to Dothan.
The event has been here for about four years and Huff says the Wiregrass is a perfect environment for the event.
“Each year is an amazing year,” Huff said. “You see some people that did it last year or the year before. They come back looking so much better because they’ve improved.”
Crunch Fitness – Dothan is one of the sponsors of the event and several employees are competing.
One of the owners of the gym, Michael Budnick, says the fitness center wanted to be a part of such a huge health and fitness event.
“I don’t think people understand the amount of discipline, work, time and effort that goes into what all these competitors do,” Budnick said.
Budnick believes every day athletes can gain inspiration from bodybuilders.
“This is a complete lifestyle deal,” Budnick said. “They’re literally dedicating 24 hours a day, seven days a week of their life to pursuing this goal. It really sets the standard for the rest of us out here who are trying to stay in shape, just trying to workout. To see what’s possible, it’s just very motivating for the rest of us out here.”
Those who wish to attend can buy tickets at the door on Saturday.
Doors open a 8:30 a.m., prejudging begins at 9 a.m., and finals start at 6 p.m.
Tickets to prejudging are $30 and tickets for the finals are $40.
