DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Golfers from across the globe are teeing off at Highland Oaks competing in a qualifying tournament for PGA Tour Canada.

The winner of the 131 player tournament will be exempt for PGA Tour Canada’s entire season, finishers 2-10 will be exempt from at least five events and up to an additional 20 in ties will earn conditional status.

PGA Tour Canada is a series of nine to ten tournaments taking place in Canada and the U.S. this summer.

This qualifying tournament has been held at Highland Oaks in years past.

Tournament director Russell Budd says Dothan’s tournament is unique as several competitors are fresh out of college.

“Come Friday afternoon when they earn status, it’s always nice to see some excitement and young 20-year-olds beginning their professional careers” Budd said. “Looking forward to a good summer with them.”

Play continues the rest of the week and wraps up on Friday.
