SAMSON, Ala. (WDHN) — A brand new athletic facility is officially open at Samson High School.

The brand new facility includes baseball and softball fields, stands for each field, a concession stand and restrooms.

It is located behind the school directly across the street from the football stadium.

The facility cost the Geneva County Board of Education $2.5-3 million.

The school board plans to add a hitting cage to be shared by the teams at some point in the future.

Officials say it is a big step up from the Tigers’ previous facilities.

“You want to be proud of your facilities and proud of your field,” Superintendent of Geneva County Schools Becky Birdsong said. “I really think it’s something huge for Samson High School and long overdue as far as being needed.”

Construction began on the facility at the end of the 2022 school year and the first pitch will be thrown for the Tigers’ baseball team on Saturday.
