Samson High School’s Alva Hawke Stadium gets a facelift

SAMSON, Ala. (WDHN) — Believe it or not, we’re less than three months away from kickoff of the 2021 high school football season.

In western Geneva County, a makeover is taking place at the digs of the Samson High Tiger football team.

A fundraiser collected more than $64,000 to build a brick fence around Alva Hawke Stadium. Tiger Head Coach Jason Wambles is thankful to the community for helping make it possible.

Recently, the school built a new press box along with improved amenities.

“Samson stepped up,” Wambles said. “I think it’s going to do a lot of work for our school and as a facelift, I guess you would say for the whole campus not just the football stadium. When you drive by that’s one of the first things you’ll see.”

Coach Wambles hopes the new brick fence will be completed by mid-June.

The coach believes Alva Hawke Stadium will be ready for its Class 1A home schedule by late August.
