HEADLAND, Ala. (WDHN) — The second Girls Prep Holiday Explosion will take place at Headland High School the week before Christmas
The tournament is made up of 12 girls high school basketball teams.
Last year only six teams competed and organizers had a goal of doubling the size and they were able to do just that.
This year’s competing teams are: Malone, Pike County, Ashford, Bay High, Barbour County, Chipley, Wicksburg, Geneva County, Abbeville, Cairo, Headland and Dothan.
Dothan Hoops Basketball Training puts on the tournament with the goal of shining more light on girls basketball in the Wiregrass.
“There’s not really a big attendance and I think that if we start putting more tournaments on and showing the talent that these girls have more people might start coming out and people might start supporting them a little bit more,” owner and lead trainer of Dothan Hoops Darius Brown said.
The tournament takes place Dec. 20-23.
Tickets can be bought at the door.
Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for students.
Fifty percent of the proceeds raised will be given back to competing schools.
