TROY, Ala. (WDHN) — It’s the fifth anniversary of DeMarcus Ware Day in Alabama, and Troy University celebrated with an exciting announcement.
The former Trojan and NFL great was on campus to talk about his new partnership with his alma mater.
Ware is a Trojan legend who was named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Decade Team and a first round draft pick by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2005 NFL Draft.
After a successful 12-year career in the NFL, leading the league in sacks twice, and winning a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos, he’s now an entrepreneur.
He’s proud to be using his computer science degree from Troy to benefit the university.
“It’s just one of those things where you’re living the dream,” Ware said. “And it’s almost like me hoisting up the Super Bowl trophy, but I get to do that every single year, and I come back to the city and see some change that I’ve made, and this right here’s the start of it.”
Ware is partnering with his alma mater to give students, employees, alumni and fans a discounted rate for his fitness app D2W.
To create the app, Ware built a room with more than 300 cameras to film himself doing more than 700 exercises.
The app uses artificial intelligence to offer the user personalized warmups, activations and recovery programs.
A portion of the proceeds made from the app will go back to Troy Athletics.
“I think this is a huge day because this symbolizes the growth of Troy University from a student athlete, to an entrepreneur,” Troy Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. “And hopefully in one year, our first Troy University NFL hall of famer.”
The nine-time NFL Pro Bowler will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in May and will appear on the NFL Hall of Fame ballot for the first time in 2022.
In addition, officially licensed Troy jerseys with Ware’s name and iconic No. 94 will be on the shelves in the Troy Bookstore and online.
“The fans also see that when they put that on not only are they representing Troy, but they’re actually giving something back to this whole Troy community,” Ware said. “That’s going to keep everything rolling.”
Ware’s app is available for Apple and Android products.
