DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan Rotary Club hosted two very special guests today.

Troy’s head football coach Jon Sumrall and athletic director Brent Jones, were in the circle city speaking to rotary.

Sumrall touched on excitement for the upcoming season and expectations for T-Day coming up this weekend.

Sumrall says Dothan is an important place for Troy as several Trojans have come out of the Dothan area.

Right now two quarterbacks are getting reps, Gunnar Watson and Quayde Hawkins.

Sumrall is impressed with how they’re competing with each other rather than against each other for the starting quarterback position.

Overall, Sumrall is pleased with how his team has done what’s been asked of them, but they still have a long way to go before the fall.

He hopes to see the competitive energy kept up for the T-Day spring game on Saturday.

“I want to see us get out of it healthy,” Sumrall said. “I would like for an injury free, competitive day would be ideal for me. The score is not really a concern. I just want to see us compete, get better, execute at a high level and stay healthy.”

The T-Day game kicks off this Saturday at 4 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Stadium.
