ENTERPRISE, Ala (WDHN) — In the coming weeks, Enterprise will begin a major water line repair project spanning across the city.
An exact start date for the project has not been announced, but the work is expected to last nearly a year.
The following roads will be a part of the project’s first phase:
- Bell Street
- Grimes Street
- West Hildreth Avenue
- Pledger Street
- East Dogwood Drive
- Kinnon Drive
- Pierson Street
- Alberta Street
- Heath Street
- Circle Drive
The selected contractor will begin work on Bell and Grimes Streets. Enterprise Water Field Superintendent Alan Mahan says that portion of the first phase should take about six weeks to complete and additional roads downtown will be affected during the summer months.
All of this water line replacement work is being done ahead of the on-going citywide resurfacing project. It’s a unified effort between several departments to coordinate this project. There’s nothing more satisfying than to go into an old street that’s all messed up, replace the water line, and then see them come behind you and resurface it. That is an accomplishment.
Enterprise Water Field Superintendent Alan Mahan
Mahan says many of the water lines are well over 125 years old.
This story will be updated with an exact start date for the work when one becomes available.
