OPP, Ala (WDHN) — A major road in Opp was closed for several hours after a large tractor-trailer truck caught on fire.

According to Opp Fire Chief Cory Spurlin, at approximately 5:17 a.m., a tractor-trailer truck carrying thousands of pounds of peanuts and cashews was traveling on Veterans Memorial Highway, near Highway 134 and 84, when the undercarriage of the truck caught fire.

Chief Spurlin says the driver was able to pull over and disconnect the truck cab from the trailer.

The driver was taken to a local hospital with possible smoke inhalation, but they are reported to be fine.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The highway was closed for nearly five hours, but it is back open.
