DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Can dreams come true during a pandemic? One business owner says yes.

While living through a pandemic might make it seem like achieving your dream is impossible, 25-year-old Davangela Grace, who had a baby when the pandemic first hit, is following her dream.

Grace’s dream was to have her own beauty spa, something she thought was impossible during COVID-19. However, her dream has finally come true.

“I didn’t know that I could actually make this possible, but now that I see anything is possible,” said Grace.

With the unemployment rate in Alabama being 5.8%, this is an example of why Dothan’s economy has been doing so well. Now Grace and her loved ones are celebrating the grand opening of “Vangie’s Vanity” that took place Wednesday.

Her Vanity offers many services such as eyelash extensions, body sculpting, non-laser lipo, facials, full face makeup, hair styling, and much more.

Grace said she can provide for everyone’s beauty wants and needs.

Members of the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce also came out to show their support for this small business.

“Being ambassadors and diplomats of the chamber its very important we try to get out and support the local businesses,” Sabrina De Jong, WOOF Radio Sales representative. said.

Chamber President Matt Parker said there are several resources for businesses like Davangela’s. Resources like the Dothan Houston County Microloan Program that gives direct loans to businesses.

Half of those loans come from female- or minority-owned businesses. According to Grace, she started out just doing her friends’ makeup, but she would have never imagined she would obtain all of this.

Grace believes if it could happen to her, it could happen to you.

To aspiring or struggling business owners remember this.

“You just have to keep going no matter what as far as if it’s hands on you have to master your craft and keep going because anything is possible.” Grace said.

Despite the crisis-filled year we’ve had, Grace said she’s living proof that dreams do come true and you can still follow your own dream despite the pandemic.
