New veterans home in Enterprise to break ground this December

ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — The Office of Veterans Affairs will soon be building a 108-acre facility in Enterprise for veterans.

Enterprise was chosen because it has been predicted to see major growth in the near future as well as one larger reason.

“It is in proximity to the largest aviation training center in the world: Fort Rucker,” Enterprise Mayor William Cooper said.

This facility will be located off Highway 51 north of Yancy Parker Industrial Park and is projected to be 182-thousand square feet and house about 175 residents.

From a veteran’s perspective, this seems like exactly what the city of Enterprise could use.

“It is just a great opportunity, and being a veteran, I’ve seen a need for homes like this,” District 4 City Councilman Scotty Johnson said. “It would really help our folks, help our veterans, and it’s something we need to do. We need to thank our veterans every day.”

The facility is expected to bring more than 200 jobs into the wiregrass. Once it is open and around another 700 jobs for construction.

If you would like a chance at naming this location, the city of enterprise is looking for help.

You can submit nominations to the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs at gov or by calling the ADVA at (334) 242-5077.

The ground-breaking for this project should be around December of this year with construction being completed in 2023.
