DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Merry Christmas Eve everyone! If you’re planning on going out and about early, make sure to bundle up once again, as the majority of us are waking up to mid to upper 30s. As we go through the next couple hours, you’ll likely be able to shed any jacket that you put on as we’ll warm up thanks to abundant sunshine.
Sunny skies will continue for much of the afternoon as well. Temperatures will also keep climbing as our winds shift to the south, allowing warmer air to filter back into the region. Thus, expect highs today to return to the low 70s for most locations.
As Santa and his sleigh make their way towards the Wiregrass from the North Pole tonight, temperatures will drop down into the 60s and eventually the 50s. With a little moisture also working its way in thanks to southerly flow, some patchy fog will be possible as well.
CHRISTMAS DAY FORECAST: Most folks will wake up to temperatures around the 50 degree mark. We’ll warm up nicely into the mid 70s by the afternoon for our highs thanks to a brisk southwesterly wind, with mostly sunny skies prevailing.
We’ll begin Sunday considerably warmer just shy of 60 degrees and top out in the mid 70s once again by the second half of the day with sunshine and a few fair weather clouds expected.
We’ll likely see some increase in cloud cover for Monday as a little more moisture starts to work its way into the Tri-State. This also means that the chance for an isolated shower or two will return to the forecast as well. Temperatures will be very warm once again, with most locations starting the day near the 60 degree mark and making it up to the mid to upper 70s.
Rain chances look to increase a little bit more to about 20% by Tuesday and Wednesday as moisture continues streaming into the region. Expect above average temperatures to continue, with morning lows in the low 60s and afternoon highs in the upper 70s.
A cold front then looks to stall just north of us as we head into Thursday. This will likely bring up our rain chance a little further to around 30% with a better setup in place to filter in more Gulf moisture. Very warm temperatures are anticipated once again, with most spots beginning the day in the mid 60s and topping out in the upper 70s.
