DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — We’re starting off the day chilly in the mid 30s, so make sure to bundle up in a heavy jacket or coat and put on some gloves and a warm knit hat before you head out the door! As we go through the remainder of the morning, you’ll likely be able to remove some of these extra layers you put on, as we can expect to warm up thanks to abundant sunshine.
Temperatures will continue to rise during the afternoon hours with sunshine remaining in plenty across the region for the most part. The majority of us will end up reaching the low 60s for highs much like yesterday.
Clouds then look to move back in from the west tonight out ahead of our next system, turning our skies partly to mostly cloudy. This will keep our low temperatures a little warmer as we head into early Friday morning, with low 40s on tap.
Cloud cover looks to stick around for much of the day on Friday as this system (a cold front) sweeps through the Tri-State during the afternoon hours. The front itself will have little to offer in the way of moisture, so only an isolated shower or two will be possible in advance of it. High temperatures will be slightly cooler thanks to the cloudiness, with mid to upper 50s expected prior to the front’s passage.
A blast of cold air will follow immediately in wake of this system, dropping our temperatures greatly to begin the weekend, with Saturday featuring mid 20s in the morning followed by a climb to only the mid 40s by the afternoon despite abundant sunshine. Additionally, winds will pick up quite a bit too behind the front, making for a chilly first day of the weekend overall with feels like temperatures potentially in the teens, especially early! With these things in mind, I would recommend bringing in your pets and plants to protect them from freeze before you head off to bed tomorrow night and to bundle up if you have any plans to be out and about for the first half of the weekend!
These well below average temperatures look to carry into Sunday morning as well, where we’ll likely see a similarly cold beginning to the day in the mid to possibly low 20s! We’ll rebound nicely from there though, warming back up to the 50s by the afternoon under sunny skies.
As we begin the next work week on Monday, a significant uptick in temperatures can be expected as a ridge moves into the eastern half of the country. This will help us easily make it back to the 60s for highs by the afternoon after a start in the 30s as mostly sunny skies prevail.
Tuesday looks to continue this rise in temperatures, with 40s in the morning being followed by a climb to the mid 60s by the afternoon with partly cloudy skies on tap.
By the time we reach Wednesday, our focus will be on our next approaching cold front. Models are still showing discrepancies regarding the timing and impacts of this system, but with better moisture and a warmer environment being likely out ahead of it, a few showers look to be possible for now at most as it moves closer. Make sure to stay tuned for later updates! We’ll begin the day near 50 degrees and top out just shy of 70 for highs.
