DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN)– Idalia has made landfall in Taylor county Florida at 7:45AM EST as a Category 3 with sustained winds of 125 MPH. Hurricane Idalia rapidly intensified into a Major Hurricane with winds of 125 MPH according to the 6AM CDT update from the National Hurricane Center. Storm surge could reach up to 15 feet in portions of the Big bend of Florida, and landfall is imminent as the center is very close to shore. If you live between Tallahassee and Perry, Florida, hurricane conditions are expected throughout your morning and afternoon hours.
Currently as of 12 PM EST Idalia has weakened into a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 80 MPH and wind gust of 115 MPH.
The good news is for the Wiregrass impacts are going to be minimal but we could still see some winds gusts up to 30-35 mph and some isolated heavy rain. Rain chances today are going to be around 60% and temperatures are going to stay cool due to the clouds from Idalia. Temperatures are expected to be around 85 degrees and we are expected to see temperatures stay below normal, for the next few days.
