DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — We had good news this morning- the severe weather potential diminished to our west earlier than expected and moved through our area faster than expected. Most of us recorded 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain with winds gusting above 35 mph in several areas with some trees and limbs knocked down.

The rest of the day may have a few showers this morning, then dry, mild weather the rest of the day with the cold front arriving mid afternoon and the weather turning colder toward sunset.

Sunny and cool Thursday into Saturday with highs in the 50s but low 60s Saturday; lows will be in the upper 30s Thursday morning but colder, around 29-33 both Friday and Saturday mornings.

Next rain arrives Sunday, with about 1 to 2 inches expected but less thunder but that could change; look for a repeat rain performance later Tuesday into Wednesday (Jan 31-Feb 1).The coldest air since Christmas will invade the central and eastern US Jan 28-Feb 3, BUT looks to stall just north of our area here around Dothan…later around Feb 7-8, we could have a brief cold snap that might drive our lows into the mid 20s.

There’s a possibility of a drier, mild weather pattern taking over around mid Feb and lasting for much of the rest of Feb, so we will see!
