DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Today will be another mostly sunny and warm day as we take a trip up to the upper 80s for highs. Much like the last few days, we won’t be entirely dry, as an isolated shower/storm cannot be ruled out for the afternoon.
For Thursday, we can essentially expect a carbon copy of today: mostly sunny skies and a shot at a sprinkle or two during the PM hours. We’ll start off the morning mild in the mid to upper 60s and climb up to around 90.
Things will look to change on Friday as a cold front moves into the region. With it, we can anticipate a higher chance (50%) for afternoon showers and storms. Some of these could be on the strong to marginally severe side with damaging winds and large hail possible. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined all of our area in a Marginal (level 1/5) risk for severe weather in their Day 3 outlook to account for these potential threats. In addition to this low-end severe potential and higher chance for rain, we’ll see winds pick up in advance of the front as well. Thanks to more cloud cover and a higher coverage of rain, we’ll see slightly cooler high temperatures compared to the last couple days as we drop back to the mid 80s. We’ll begin the day in the upper 60s again.
This cold front will be slow in its progression southeastward, so we’ll keep showers and storms in the forecast on Saturday, but the overall coverage of them will be lower than Friday as rain chances drop down to 30%. Winds will remain on the breezy side. We’ll see relatively similar temperatures to Friday as we trek from the upper 60s to the mid 80s for highs.
Once this front fully exits our area, it will leave drier and more seasonable air in its wake. This will set the stage for sunny skies to return on Sunday with no chance for rain at all! We’ll wake up to slightly cooler temperatures in the low 60s and top out in the mid 80s once again.
Monday and Tuesday will look to feature similarly nice weather with lots of sunshine and near normal temperatures for this time of year as we begin the next work week in style! Expect to begin both days in the low to mid 60s and make it up to the mid 80s for afternoon highs.
