DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A line of showers continues to progress southeastward into the region this morning, so make sure to have a rain jacket or umbrella handy as you head out the door! Temperature-wise, we’re starting off the day much warmer than yesterday in the 50s thanks to increased cloud cover and rain in the area.
Showers will continue to move through the Tri-State as we go through the rest of the day with the cold front responsible for them pushing into the region. We’ll warm up to the low 60s for highs by the early afternoon immediately ahead of the front before cooling down in wake of its passage.
Much of the shower activity looks to move out during the evening hours, setting us up for a mainly quiet overnight period. We’ll see cloudy skies remain in place as temperatures drop down to the upper 30s heading into Friday morning.
The cold front from today looks to stall somewhere around the Big Bend area of Florida during the day on Friday, with a low pressure system also developing right along the front. This setup will help to funnel in more moisture to our area on its northern side, meaning we’ll see another chance for showers to close out the work week. The good news is though, coverage will be a little more scattered and lower compared to today. Temperatures will also be much cooler since we’ll be in a post-frontal Arctic airmass, with highs only topping out in the mid to upper 40s.
Saturday looks to start off even colder than Friday in the mid 30s. The good news is, the weather will be improving by this point, with clearing skies expected throughout the day. We’ll still struggle to warm high temperature-wise though, only topping out in the mid to upper 40s once again.
Sunday looks to feature our coldest start this week, with most locations down in the upper 20s! From there though, we look to rebound nicely for the afternoon, returning to the low 50s with plenty of sunshine of go around.
This slight warming trend for our highs will continue for Monday, with the majority of us beginning the day near 30 degrees and reaching the mid 50s under partly cloudy skies.
Rain chances then look to return to the forecast on Tuesday thanks to a Gulf low passing just south of our area. This will keep us on the cool side with this system with just scattered showers expected and not much change in temperature, with highs still topping out in the 50s.
This system will quickly move out by Wednesday, drying us out and cooling us down a bit again. Expect high temperatures to drop back to the low 50s by this point with partly sunny skies prevailing for the mid point of the next work week.
