DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — We’re seeing another nice and relatively cool start to the final day of the work week here in the Wiregrass, with the majority of us seeing mostly clear skies and temperatures in the low to mid 60s. There have been a few locations that have seen some patchy dense fog, but overall they have been few and far between. As we go through the rest of the morning, we can expect temperatures to warm quickly once again with plenty of sunshine around.
With a ridge and high pressure system in place over our area once again today, we can expect mostly sunny skies and dry weather to continue for much of the afternoon as well. Highs will top out in the upper 80s to near 90 for most locations.
Warm and dry weather will continue for many of the Friday night football matchups as well, so you definitely won’t need a jacket if you’re planning on going out to any of the games! Temperatures will start out in the low 80s under mostly sunny skies around kickoff, and will drop into the mid 70s by halftime and the low 70s by the time most games end, with mostly clear skies and dry weather sticking around respectively.
Our consistent pattern of above average temperatures and dry weather will come to an end as we go into Saturday thanks to a cold front that will approach our area from the northwest. As it moves through the region during the morning hours, we will have the chance for a few showers. Rain chances though will be on the lower end at around 20% since there will be limited moisture out ahead of the front. Highs will only peak near 80 prior to this system moving through.
In wake of the front, much cooler air will filter into the Tri-State during the second half of the day Saturday. Temperatures will continue to cool during the overnight hours, and in the end, most spots will bottom out in the low 50s to start off the day on Sunday! With a high pressure system moving in behind the front as well, plentiful sunshine will return area-wide. Highs for Sunday, much like the lows, will be cooler as well, with most locations only reaching the low to mid 70s.
Fall-like weather will continue for Monday as well, with most spots starting out the day in the low 50s (and possibly upper 40s) and topping out in the mid 70s under mostly sunny skies.
Tuesday will follow in a similar fashion, with mostly sunny skies expected once again area-wide. Highs will be a touch warmer in the upper 70s to near 80.
Wednesday and Thursday will continue on this trend, with both days featuring mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and highs slightly warmer in the low 80s.
