ELBA, Ala. (WDHN) — Shortly after one o’clock Tuesday afternoon, the skies opened up over the county seat of Coffee County.
As the storm line crossed Western Coffee County, this heavy rain and lightning created temporary “flash flooding” in Elba’s Downtown Square.
Over the years, the city had seen a lot of flooding and large floods at that from the Pea River. But, the U.S. Army Corp dam built in the early 2000s eliminated that issue.
Even so, street flooding remains a problem as stormwater drains often can not keep up with heavy amounts of rainfall at one time.
Fortunately, no reports of any major damage in the City of Flowing Wells.
